- Assisting school districts in addressing the needs of students who have emotional and/or behavioral problems, which results in cost savings, a reduction of behavioral incidents and improved academic performance.
- Defining and clarifying the roles of and responsibilities of the school social workers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, teachers and administrators in their work with students who have mental health disorders.
- Assisting districts in improving access to mental health services by co-locating community mental health programs within the schools while maintaining legal and financial firewalls to protect the districts from liability.
- Providing individual case consultation, psychiatric assessments and independent educational evaluations of students who have significant mental health problems that are interfering with their educational achievement, and also provides expert testimony in due process hearings.
- Formulating school mental health plans that provide a blueprint for school mental health guidelines and protocols regarding educational assessments, communicating with mental health professionals, mental health screening, designing effective IEPs, crisis intervention and staff continuing education.
- Data gathering and analysis to help school districts develop and design effective school mental health programs and to clarify outcome information.
