Dr. Dikel's Psychological, Psychiatric, and Medical Training and Qualifications
Dr. Dikel has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. He attended medical school and did his residency and fellowship in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He is board-certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He also has a Certificate in Medical Administration from St. Thomas University (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He has also taught in the University of Missouri Center for the Advancement of Mental Health Practices in the Schools, Columbia, MO, and in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Dikel is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is also a member and past president of the Minnesota Psychiatric Society and the Minnesota Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

In 2007, Dr. Dikel completed an Archibald Bush Foundation Medical Fellowship in Best Practices in School Mental Health.
Administrative Experience
Dr. Dikel is Past President of the Minnesota Psychiatric Society, and of the Minnesota Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a member of the Board of Reference of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) and has served as the Psychiatry Representative of the Minnesota Medical Association Legislative Committee. He has been the Psychiatry representative of the State Mental Health Advisory Council and its Children’s Subcommittee, and was the Chair of its Prevention/Early Intervention Task Force. He has been a member of the Minnesota Mental Health Action Group’s Public/Private Partnership and the Integrated Pathways for Children’s Mental Health in the Schools Subcommittees, and a member of the Minnesota Psychiatric Society’s Task Forces on Local Standards of Care and on Mental Health/Medical Integrated Care. He has worked with the IDEA Partnership (Federal Special Education advisory group), and has been a member of the American School Health Association (ASHA) task force on school mental health policy. He is a Board Certification Examiner for both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Since 1996, Dr. Dikel has taught a variety of classes for the Graduate Liberal Studies Programs at Hamline University and the University of Minnesota, and for the Missouri University Masters in School Mental Health Program. Courses include:
